And can I just say...

clothedinsky:

robot-heart-politics:

…anyone who argues that gender is “natural,” when we live in a society that from the moment of birth, the phrase “It’s a boy!” or “It’s a girl!” predetermines the colors the child will be sent home, the kinds of clothes he or she will wear the rest of his or her life, the color of his or her nursery, the toys he or she is given, the activities he or she is encouraged to participate in, the other children he or she is supposed to play with, the length of his or her hair, whether or not he or she is supposed to be active or docile, what kind of books and movies he or she is supposed to like…seriously, the kid doesn’t even make it home from the hospital before many of those decisions have already been made for him or her. And we think gender is natural? We think this is something kids choose for themselves?

We’ll just forget for a minute that 150 years ago, little boys were put in pink and little girls were put in blue, or that 99% of the things we view as “natural” are actually constructs that have most definitely changed over time… Where does a child ever get to choose any of these things for him or herself? You bring the kid home in a pink or blue outfit, put them in a pink or blue crib, and hand them a stuffed toy that’s either a powdery pink bear or a big scary lion, and you think you haven’t already started pushing your child into a direction that they may or may not want to go? That they may never get to realize they want to go in a different direction at all, because they never realized it was something they had a choice about?  Because really, they don’t? Because revolting against whatever gender role they were relegated to at birth (and often even before that) means a lifetime of being picked on, bullied, harassed, teased, criticized and even ostracized from certain segments of society?

Have you honestly never asked yourself these questions?

Over the weekend I learnt that in traditional Northwest Coast society 8 different genders were recognized. It’s sometimes hard to draw a line between what is a natural and unnatural practice amoungst humans, however, I believe we’ve so much to learn from the societies who have kept closer to the ways of life that arose in harmony with their environment in small, close-knit communities.

Paleontologists brought to tears, laughter by Creation Museum → news.yahoo.com

spacepants:

shorterexcerpts:

kaytee:

For a group of paleontologists, a tour of the Creation Museum seemed like a great tongue-in-cheek way to cap off a serious conference.

But while there were a few laughs and some clowning for the camera, most left more offended than amused by the frightening way in which evolution — and their life’s work — was attacked.

“It’s sort of a monument to scientific illiteracy, isn’t it?” said Jerry Lipps, professor of geology, paleontology and evolution at University of California, Berkeley.

My favorite excerpt:

The museum argues that the fossil record has been misinterpreted and that Tyrannosaurus rex was a vegetarian before Adam and Eve bit into that sin-inducing apple.

Says Daryl Domning of Howard University:

“This bothers me as a scientist and as a Christian, because it’s just as much a distortion and misrepresentation of Christianity as it is of science.”

After visiting the museum’s website, I cannot express how floored I am that something like this exists in the 21st century.

ugh.  brb, painting massive facepalm img on its front doors.

“You have to wonder if Obama is just trying to lay a foundation for not being a hypocrite when he tries to serve beyond 2016. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if in the next number of years there is a move on the 22nd Amendment, which term limits the President of the United States. He may not do it that way, he may not openly try to change the Constitution. But there might be this movement in the country from his cult-like followers to support the notion that a democratically-elected leader who is loved and adored has carte blanc once elected. Just serve as long as he wants because the people demand it, because the people want it, because the people love it.

And I wouldn’t put it past Obama to be plotting right now how to serve beyond 2016 and I think the way he’s reacting to what’s happening in Honduras - Look, they’ve got a constitution, they’re a democratically-elected set of officials down there and you had a guy running the country, Mel Zelaya, who was just going to basically rip that country’s democracy to shreds and the country moved in to stop in him from doing it and Obama sides with the guy who wanted to rip up the constitution. He sides with other dictators in the region. Regardless, I mean, one thing is clear here: Obama is nothing if not a hardcore liberal. Always, always more sympathetic, appearing to side with the bad guys on the world stage.”

Rush Limbaugh on Obama Wanting to Stay in Office Past 2016

So, FYI: there’s a coup in Latin America, the world sides with the Democratically elected leader ousted in a Military Coup (UN and the regional governments) = President Obama wants to reign over Amerika forever.

Is it just me or is Rush getting crazier and crazier???
